It began in the 1940s as a small, informal effort to create a safe space for people who felt isolated, overwhelmed, or unable to speak openly about what they were going through. What started in Asia slowly travelled west, carried forward by individuals who believed in listening without judgement and welcoming people regardless of background, belief, or circumstance. Over the decades, it became less an organisation than a tradition, quietly passed from one community to another. Today, that tradition exists around the world, held together by one simple idea: no one should have to struggle alone.
